Richard W. Tully, Jr. was born and raised in Commack, Long Island and a proud graduate of Local
638 Steamfitters. The Tully family has been part of Local 638 Steamfitters since the inception in
1884 and currently have five generations of Steamfitters. Both sides of his family are descendants
of Ireland. The Tully’s are from County Cork and the Madine’s and Rafferty’s are from Munster,
South Roscommon and Belfast. They are one of the largest families in Local 638 carrying on a long
tradition of excellence.
He lived in Pennsylvania for twelve years and raised two wonderful sons, Richard W. Tully III and
Sean Patrick Tully, both who have joined him in Local 638. His Irish heritage has always been
important to him and passing that on to his sons. He was a proud member of the Ancient of
Hibernians and over the years had the honor of sponsoring many children through Project
Children. His family was able to spend time with these children and make them part of his family
for the time the visited. It was a truly rewarding experience and provided a lifelong impact as he
still keeps in touch with some of the children today.
In 1997 he founded Interstate Mechanical Services, Inc. and as President and CEO has proudly
grown the business to be a premier mechanical contractor in the industry. His is knowledge and
expertise have led him to expand the business to work in almost all of the Hospitals and
Universities in NYC. A key component to his success has been the addition of his 60,000sqft
fabrication shop in Yaphank where he is able to have steamfitters prefabricate piping improving
efficiency on projects while continuing to provide the impeccable quality work that he and his
clients expect. He is a member of the Mechanical Contractors Association and has employed
hundreds of Steamfitters and Service Technicians along with supporting many other unions as a
prime mechanical contractor.
In addition to his charitable contributions within the Irish community he also supports many great
causes including the American Heart Association, in which Richard serves on the Executive
Leadership Team, Hope with Heart, Futures in Education, and Healthcare Leaders of NY. He is
committed to helping these and other organizations with fundraising so they can continue their
life changing and lifesaving work.
Richard is honored and blessed to have to been selected as this year’s Grand Marshall of the
Queens County St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
